Illinois Wesleyan Earns Fourth Straight CCIW Women’s Golf Championship
PONTIAC, Ill. – Since 2002, the Illinois Wesleyan women’s golf team has been able to call themselves College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin champions. That streak continued into its fourth straight year as the Titans came away with another conference title Saturday at the Pontiac Elks Club, winning with a two-day score of 672 (337+335).
The Titans, led by coach Kathy Niepagen, who earned coach of the year honors, won by 41 strokes over second place Carthage (358+355=713). Illinois Wesleyan’s score of 672 was bettered by two strokes, topping last year’s winning score of 674. The Titans finished with six individuals in the top 10.
Wheaton finished third at 729 (369+360), while Augustana was fourth at 735 (379+356). Millikin placed fifth at 738 (385+353), while North Central was sixth at 802 (412+390). North Park and Elmhurst did not field a full team.
The Titans were led by Andrea Johanns who shot a two-day score of 165 (84+81) to earn the individual title. Teammate Megan Teschner was second at 170 (81+89).
Rounding out the top 10 were Lydia Lindemann of Millikin (88+83=171), Whitney Shartle of Carthage (86+86= 172), Alison Mayer (84+88=172), Taylor Paskell (93+81=174) and Kristi Katz (88+87=175) of Illinois Wesleyan, Michelle Coble of Augustana (86+92=178), Chelsea Kater of Carthage (89+90=179) and Ashley Higginson of Illinois Wesleyan (93+86=179).
