Golf Digest College Guide Honors CCIW Teams in Latest Rankings
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- In an effort to publicize college golf to high school students around the country, Golf Digest Magazine has included a special section called the "College Golf Guide" in its latest edition (Sept. '06), which offers rankings of the top programs in the country. In these rankings, the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) had three member schools mentioned in the top 50 in the United States.
Under the "Academics First" list for women's programs, Millikin (36th), Illinois Wesleyan (41st) and Elmhurst (47th) were all ranked in the top 50 for schools that offer the best combined opportunity to get an education and play golf at the same time. For the men, Millikin placed 34th under the "Academics First" category.
Golf Digest ranked the 772 NCAA men's programs and 500 women's programs in six categories. The categories included team adjusted scoring average, player growth, academics, climate and coaches/facilities. Each of the categories were graded on a curve to determine overall scores.
Last season, Illinois Wesleyan earned the women's title at the CCIW Championships, and also finished sixth at the NCAA Championships. Carthage won the conference title on the men's side.
