illinois wesleyan, wheaton to represent cciw at ncaa women's golf championship

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan and Wheaton women's golf teams will represent the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) at the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship May 13-16 at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

This is the first time in conference history that two women's golf teams from the CCIW will take part in the NCAA Championship during the same season. Illinois Wesleyan earned its highest placement at the championship last season by finishing fourth, and has also qualified for the event during the 2000, 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2007 seasons. Millikin represented the conference at the NCAA Championship in 2001.

Illinois Wesleyan earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship by virtue of its win at the 2008 CCIW Women's Golf Championship in October. It was the Titans' seventh conference title in school history and seventh in a row.

Wheaton earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship and will be making its first-ever appearance at the event. The Thunder finished second at the conference championship each of the last two seasons, and in nine team events this season, has never finished beyond third place.
