CCIW Names Roe, Pelkowski and Patterson Football Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Matt Roe and Josh Patterson of Augustana, and Mike Pelkowski of Carthage were named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Football Players of the Week for their performances Saturday, November 5.

Roe, a senior quarterback from Wadsworth, Ill., led the Vikings to a 20-17 victory over North Central Saturday, which clinched the CCIW championship (20th in school history) at Ericson Field. Roe gained 87 yards on 14 attempts and had a touchdown on a four-yard run in the second quarter. He completed two of four passes for 25 yards and engineered the winning drive that resulted in Patterson’s game-winning 22-yard field goal with no time on the clock. Roe’s 12-yard run on a first and 15 situation from midfield set the table for Patterson’s kick.

In a 42-7 win over Illinois Wesleyan Saturday, Pelkowski, a senior middle linebacker from Justice, Ill., collected nine tackles, including two sacks on the afternoon. The game was delayed 90 minutes in the second quarter due to lightning in the area.

Patterson, a junior kicker from Elmhurst, Ill., booted the game-winning field goal to give Augustana the win against North Central. Patterson’s game-winner came seconds after a 29-yard attempt was blocked, but the Cardinals were called for offsides, giving Patterson another chance. He booted a career-high 43-yard field goal in the first quarter and also averaged 42.2 yards on six punts with a long of 54.

CCIW football wraps up the regular season next Saturday, Nov. 12 with Augustana traveling to Wheaton and Carthage playing at Elmhurst. Illinois Wesleyan hosts Millikin, while North Park plays at North Central.
