Three CCIW Football Players Named to AFCA All-America Team
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The American Football Coaches Association named its 2005 Division III Coaches’ All-America Team Tuesday, and three student-athletes from three seperate College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin institutions were named to the squad.
Offensive lineman Mike Zeifert (Augustana), a senior from Waukegan, Ill., linebacker Lenny Radtke (North Central), a senior from Carol Stream, Ill., and placekicker Andrew Day, a senior from Shoreview, Minn., were all named to the 25-member team. This year’s team was made up of 21 seniors, three juniors and one sophomore.
Zeifert took home all-conference honors three times and helped his team rush for an average of 346.3 yards per game and 49 rushing touchdowns in 2005.
Radtke was also a three-time all-conference selection and ends his career as North Central’s all-time leader in tackles as well as its single-season leader.
Day concluded his career at Wheaton as the school’s all-time leader in field goals with 32.
Augustana has had a player selected to the AFCA Division III Coaches’ All-America Team each of the last six years. In addition, the Vikings have been represented a total of 17 times by 16 players chosen since 1972, more than any other team along with Wittenberg who has also been represented 17 times by 16 players.
