Hershey, Scardullo, Watts Named Football Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Andrew Hershey of Wheaton, John Scardullo of Elmhurst and Brandon Watts of North Park were named football players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Sunday.

Hershey, a sophomore running back from York Springs, Pa., made the most of his first collegiate start in a Wheaton victory at North Park on Saturday. He averaged 5.2 yards per carry with 115 yards on 22 carries. Hershey reached the end zone four times in the Thunder victory at the Vikings’ Holmgren Field.

Scardullo, a sophomore linebacker from Monee, Ill., led the Elmhurst defense in the team’s 25-13 win over Illinois Wesleyan. Scardullo finished the game with a career-high 16 tackles, including 10 solo tackles. In addition, he also recorded 1.5 tackles for loss and caused a fumble that he recovered. The Elmhurst defense held Illinois Wesleyan scoreless in the second half and held the Titans to only 67 yards off offense in the second half.

Watts, a senior wide receiver from Barrington, Ill., had three kickoff returns for 150 yards against Wheaton on Saturday. One of his kickoff returns was for 95 yards, which resulted in a touchdown. Watts also had eight receptions for 164 yards and three rushes on the day. His yardage for the day totaled 309 yards.

The conference season continues in the CCIW next Saturday, October 28 as Millikin travels to Carthage, while Augustana travels to North Central. Illinois Wesleyan hosts North Park while Elmhurst travels to Wheaton.
