Kniss, Maple, Lomnicki Named Football Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Kam Kniss of North Central, along with Kyle Maple and Tyler Lomnicki of Elmhurst were named football players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Sunday.

Kniss, a senior quarterback from Lanark, Ill., was 17 of 29 for 222 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Kniss had touchdown tosses of five, 55 and two yards respectively. His 55-yard touchdown pass was a season-high. Kniss also rushed for 37 yards on the ground to help lead the Cardinals to 2-1 overall record after a 34-15 win over Washington University on Saturday.

Maple, a junior defensive back from Kaneville, Ill., forced a pair of turnovers that helped lead the Elmhurst defense to a 33-16 win at Olivet College. Maple forced a fumble on Olivet’s second possession, leading to a Bluejay touchdown. He also picked off a pass and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown. He also finished with four tackles (three solo) in the win.

Lomnicki, a freshman kicker from Elmhurst, Ill., drilled a pair of 30-yard field goals in the Bluejays win over Olivet. He also converted three extra points, including one that was 30-yards in length after a pair of penalties. While handling kickoff duties he also put four footballs into the endzone forcing touchbacks.

The conference season begins in the CCIW next Saturday, September 30 as Elmhurst visits Carthage, while Illinois Wesleyan travels to Augustana. North Central hosts North Park, while Wheaton travels to Millikin.
