O’Boyle, Studebaker and Berry Named Football Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Brennan O’Boyle of Carthage, Andy Studebaker of Wheaton and Mike Berry of Illinois Wesleyan were named players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Sunday.

O’Boyle, a sophomore quarterback from Chicago, completed 18-of-26 passes for 195 yards and carried the ball 14 times for 50 yards in the Red Men’s 21-14 win at Lakeland on Sept. 9. With the game tied 14-14 and eight seconds remaining, O’Boyle hooked up with fullback Greg Spencer on an eight-yard touchdown pass to give Carthage the victory and move its record to 2-0 this season.

Studebaker, a junior defensive end from Congerville, Ill., helped lead an impressive effort by the Wheaton defense in a 29-7 Thunder win against Albion College, which moved Wheaton’s record to 1-0 this season. Studebaker recorded two quarterback sacks for minus-19 yards with three total tackles and a quarterback hurry. The 2005 All-CCIW pick also recovered a fumble in the second quarter as the Wheaton defense held Albion to just 10 rushing yards in the game.

Berry, a senior placekicker from Crystal Lake, Ill., made field goals of 43 and 34 yards and also had an extra point in a 21-6 win over Olivet that moved the Titans’ record to 1-1. The 43-yard field goal is tied for the 7th longest in Illinois Wesleyan history.

The non-conference portion of the CCIW schedule continues next Saturday, Sept. 16 as Whittier travels to Carthage, while Mount St. Joseph hosts Illinois Wesleyan. Elmhurst plays host to Chicago, while Millikin travels to Wabash and Wheaton hosts Washington University. North Park hosts Eureka, while North Central travels to Benedictine.
