NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Joe Chupp of Wheaton, Mike Guzman of Augustana, Ward Brady of Elmhurst and Deon Hampton of Millikin took home football player of the week honors in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Sunday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Chupp, a senior wide receiver from Lawrenceville, Ga., caught five passes for a season-high 144 yards and three touchdowns in the Thunder’s 49-14 win over Illinois Wesleyan Saturday which helped Wheaton capture a share of the CCIW championship. Wheaton racked up 574 yards of total offense including 366 through the air as Chupp’s twin brother, quarterback Jeremy, tossed all three of the touchdown passes caught by his brother.

Guzman, a senior fullback from Oregon, Ill., rushed for 180 yards on 18 attempts and scored three touchdowns on runs of five, 27 and two yards as Augustana defeated Millikin 34-23 on Saturday. The win clinched the 21st CCIW football title in Augustana history.

Brady, a senior linebacker from Bartlett, Ill., closed out his Elmhurst football career by leading the Bluejays’ defense in a 24-7 win over North Park on Saturday. Brady finished with a team-high eight tackles (five solo), including a sack, a pass break-up from a hit, and an interception.

Hampton, a sophomore defensive lineman from Chicago, had one tackle and a blocked extra point in the game against Augustana on Saturday.

Both Wheaton and North Central earned a spot in the NCAA Division III Football Championship as Wheaton will host a first round game against Mt. St. Joseph on Saturday, Nov. 18 at noon, while North Central will face Concordia (Wis.) on the campus of Wisconsin Lutheran, also on Nov. 18.
