Ceisel, Shenault, Denny Named CCIW Football Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Martin Ceisel of Illinois Wesleyan, along with Franko Shenault and Matt Denny of Carthage were named football players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Sunday after their performances during games played on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Ceisel, a junior wide receiver from Deerfield, Ill., and Deerfield High School, made 12 catches for 162 yards, catching two touchdowns and rushing for a third, leading to a 28-14 victory over Elmhurst Saturday during Illinois Wesleyan’s Homecoming. The win moved the Titans to 4-0 in conference play (5-2 overall). Ceisel got the Titans on the board with 10 seconds left in the first half on a 13-yard pass from Kraig Ladd, then caught a 16-yard pass with 11:13 to play in the third quarter to help Illinois Wesleyan to a 15-7 lead. With 29 seconds left in the third, John Meacham ran 14 yards to the Bluejay one yard line when the ball popped out and into Ceisel’s hands as he carried it into the end zone for his third touchdown of the game.

Denny

Shenault, a senior safety from Hanover Park, Ill., and Lake Park High School, was all over the field in the Red Men’s 33-28 victory over Augustana Saturday in Kenosha, Wis. Shenault collected a game-high 28 tackles (14 solo, 14 assisted) in helping to even Carthage’s mark in conference play at 2-2 (5-2 overall).

Denny, a senior place kicker from Griffith, Ind., and Griffith High School, booted a pair of 45-yard field goals in the Red Men’s win over Augustana College. For the year, Denny is nine-for-13 in field goals, including six-of-seven from 40-49 yards out. He’s ranked fifth in CCIW scoring (7.4 points per game thru Oct. 20), first in CCIW kick scoring (7.4 points), first in field goals (1.29 per game) and tied for first in conversion points (25-of-25). He was tied for 15th in NCAA Division III field goals (1.2 per game thru Oct. 13).

The conference portion of the CCIW football season continues next Saturday, Oct. 27, as Carthage travels to Millikin while Elmhurst hosts Wheaton. Illinois Wesleyan travels to North Park while Augustana hosts North Central.
