NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Kraig Ladd of Illinois Wesleyan, along with Tim Hoette and Kody Smith of Millikin were named football players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Sunday after their performances during games played on Saturday, Oct. 6.

Ladd, a sophomore quarterback from Shelbyville, Ill., and Shelbyville High School, in just his fourth collegiate start, completed 27-of-37 passes for 404 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Titans over Carthage, 35-31, on Saturday in Kenosha, Wis. The 404 passing yards is the third most in an Illinois Wesleyan single game, behind only John Rooney (426, vs. Elmhurst 1983) and Chad Beaty (409, vs. North Central 1997). The 27 completions is the fourth best single game total at Illinois Wesleyan. Ladd also rushed 10 times for 52 yards as the Titans accumluated 454 yards of total offense in earning their second straight CCIW win. Ladd had 456 yards of total offense, a new Titan single game record, topping the old mark of 431 set by Rooney against Elmhurst in 1983.

Hoette, a sophomore defensive back from Florissant, Mo., and McCluer North High school, was all over the field in Millikin’s 34-7 win over North Park on Saturday during the Big Blue’s homecoming. He led the team with 11 total tackles (seven solo) and recorded a tackle for loss when Millikin’s defense held the Vikings on North Park’s final series of the game inside the 10-yard line. Hoette then picked up an interception with 47 seconds left that allowed Millikin to run out the clock. He also had a forced fumble and an interception in the win.

Smith, a freshman wide receiver from Arthur, Ill., and Arthur High School, scored his first career touchdown in Millikin’s win over North Park by returning a punt 62 yards in the second quarter. On the day, he returned four punts for 81 yards and one kickoff for 19 yards. He also caught one pass for 45 yards.

The conference portion of the CCIW football season continues next Saturday, Oct. 13 as Augustana travels to Wheaton, while North Park hosts Carthage. Millikin travels to Illinois Wesleyan, while Elmhurst hosts North Central.
