NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Chris Fossum of Wheaton, Jake Mobley of Elmhurst and Tim Podulka of Augustana were named football players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Sunday after their performances during games played on Saturday, Sept. 22.

Fossum, a senior wide receiver from Alpharetta, Ga., helped lead Wheaton to a 42-7 victory against Hope College on Saturday as the Thunder captain reached the end zone twice against the Flying Dutchmen. Fossum recorded three catches for 73 yards. Fossum broke a 7-7 tie when he grabbed a five-yard touchdown catch late in the second quarter to give Wheaton a 14-7 lead. Fossum also recorded a 57-yard grab and ran it into the end zone late in the third quarter.

Mobley, a senior defensive lineman from Hoffman Estates, Ill., and Schaumburg High School totaled seven tackles in the Bluejays’ 42-14 win over Olivet on Saturday. Four of his seven tackles were for a loss of yardage and he also recorded three quarterback sacks, tying the single-game record at Elmhurst.

In a 34-24 non-conference victory over Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday, September 22, Podulka, a junior quarterback from Elk Grove Village, Ill., and Elk Grove High School, accounted for 257 yards. He returned five punts for 33 yards and five kickoffs for 126 yards. He caught one pass for 41 yards, rushed the ball eight times for 48 yards and completed two of three passes for nine yards.

The conference portion of the CCIW football season begins next Saturday, September 29 with Illinois Wesleyan hosting Augustana, while Carthage travels to Elmhurst. Wheaton hosts Millikin, while North Park faces North Central in Chicago.
