Ullrich, Ambriz, Moore Named CCIW Football Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Zach Ullrich of Wheaton, Patrick Ambriz of Elmhurst and Donovan Moore of Carthage were named football players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Sunday after their performances during games played on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Ullrich, a senior quarterback from Wheaton, Ill., and Wheaton North High School, led the Thunder to a 55-14 win at Washington University (Mo.) on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis. Ullrich completed 69 percent of his passes with 16 completions on 23 attempts for 240 yards and three touchdowns. Ullrich’s longest toss of the day was a 73-yard connection with Chris Fossum leading to Wheaton’s fourth touchdown of the game.

Ambriz, a senior defensive back from Wausau, Wis., and Wausau East High School, had a strong overall game in helping Elmhurst to a 36-13 win over the University of Chicago on Saturday. Ambriz, a safery, finished the contest with six tackles (all solo), including two quarterback sacks. He also picked off a pass that he returned 30 yards to the Chicago 20-yard line, helping to set up an Elmhurst touchdown.

Moore, a senior safety/punter from Spring Grove, Ill., and Richmond-Burton High School, executed a fake punt for a 27-yard carry in the third quarter of the Red Men’s 35-28 victory over Whittier College on Saturday. On the next play, Carthage quarterback Dan DeBouef hooked up with Jeff Koeneman on a 25-yard touchdown strike to put the Red Men up by a 28-14 margin. Moore also punted three times and averaged 44.0 yards per kick with a longest effort of 53 yards.

The CCIW football season concludes the non-conference portion of the schedule next Saturday, September 22 as Augustana hosts UW-Platteville, while Washington University travels to North Central. North Park faces Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind., while Wheaton hosts Hope and Olivet plays at Elmhurst.
