NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Dan DeBoeuf of Carthage, Matt Wenger of North Central and Pete Ittersagen of Wheaton were named football players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Sunday after their performances during games played on Saturday, Sept. 8.
DeBoeuf, a sophomore quarterback from Lemont, Ill., and Lemont High School, completed 30-of-42 passes for 316 yards in the Red Men’s 35-16 win over Lakeland on Sept. 8. Filling in for an injured Brennan O’Boyle, DeBoeuf set school records for completions and passing yards. He broke a completions record of 28 set by Frank Ambrosini against North Central in 1989 and broke Jeff Tess’ 1993 record of 314 passing yards against Millikin.
Wenger, a sophomore linebacker from Davis, Ill., and Dakota High School, led a North Central defense that held Concordia (Wis.) to seven points en route to a 28-7 opening-week victory. Wenger led the team in tackles with eight, and also had 2.5 tackles-for-loss of 13 yards and one sack for a loss of 11 yards.
Ittersagen, a junior defensive back from Wheaton, Ill., and Wheaton North High School, had four punt returns for 118 yards, averaging 29.5 yards per return, in Wheaton’s 28-10 win at Albion on Saturday. The longest of Ittersagen’s returns was a 78-yarder for a touchdown, late in the first quarter, to give the Thunder a 14-0 lead over the Britons. It was Ittersagen’s second career return for a touchdown in 16 career punt returns. Ittersagen also recorded 10 tackles on defense, including eight solo stops to go along with a 17-yard interception return to set up Wheaton’s third touchdown of the game.
The CCIW football season continues next Saturday, Sept. 15, as Carthage travels to Whittier, while Illinois Wesleyan hosts Mt. St. Joseph. Millikin plays host to Wabash, while Benedictine travels to North Central and North Park heads downstate to face Eureka. Wheaton will face Washington University in St. Louis, while Elmhurst travels to the University of Chicago.
