CCIW Names Minter, Maple and Lomnicki Football Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Emmanuel Minter of Millikin, along with Kyle Maple and Tyler Lomnicki of Elmhurst were named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week for their performances in games played Saturday.

Minter, a sophomore running back from Taylorville, Ill., seeing his first varsity action of his career, and his first-ever start, helped the Big Blue to a 23-21 victory over Illinois College to open the 2007 season. Minter ran for a game-high 136 yards on 25 carries (no carries for loss) and scored three times with a long run of 22. Minter averaged 5.4 yards per carry and scored all of Millikin’s touchdowns (the other score came from a FG). His touchdowns were runs of 14 yards (12:29 in the 1st), seven yards (5:58 in the 1st) and 14 yards (8:12 in the 2nd).

Maple, a senior defensive back from Kanesville, Ill., helped lead the Bluejays to a 52-3 opening night win over Benedictine. The safety led the team with eight tackles, (seven solo) and picked off a pass that he returned 39 yards for a touchdown. Elmhurst’s defense held Benedictine to only six first downs and 101 yards of total offense in the game.

Lomnicki, a sophomore kicker from Elmhurst, Ill., was perfect in the kicking game for Elmhurst during the Bluejays’ win over Benedictine. He accounted for 10 points, converting all seven extra-point opportunities and booting a 26-yard field goal.

The CCIW football season continues next Saturday, September 8, as Augustana travels to Baldwin-Wallace, while Carthage hosts Lakeland. Illinois Wesleyan travels to Olivet, while Millikin faces Ohio Wesleyan on the road. North Central opens its season at Concordia (Wis.), while Wheaton travels to Albion and North Park hosts Benedictine.
