two CCIW Football student-athletes to play in Aztec bowl
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced the members of the Division III all-star team on Tuesday who will compete in the Aztec Bowl scheduled for December 16. Two student-athletes from College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) schools will be a part of the team when they kick off against Mexico in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Quarterback Kam Kniss (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) from North Central and running back Mike Guzman (Oregon, Ill./H.S.) from Augustana were named to the team.
Guzman finished his senior season with 749 rushing yards on 127 attempts with six touchdowns, earning him first-team all-conference honors. Kniss was named Art Keller Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season after throwing for 2,881 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2006.
The Aztec Bowl is the traditional season-ending game for Mexico’s college football schedule. The game has been played 35 times since 1947 with the last nine contests featuring the United States vs. Mexico match-up. The United States leads the series, 8-1. This year’s game will kick off at 7 p.m. CST on December 16 and will be played at Estadio Victoria.
