2002 Preseason Football Poll

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - Augustana and Illinois Wesleyan shared the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin football title in 2001 and according to a vote of the league coaches, things may not be much different this time around. The Vikings of third year head coach Jim Barnes went 10-2 overall and 6-1 in the CCIW, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III national playoffs. In the annual pre-season poll Augustana garnered 48 points, including six first place votes.

Illinois Wesleyan, 7-2 overall and 6-1 in the CCIW, scored 42 points with one first place vote to finish second. Millikin tallied 38 points with one first place vote to grab third place after finishing the 2001 season 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the league. Wheaton (6-4 & 5-2) checks in with 32 points for fourth place and Carthage (6-4 & 3-4) is in fifth place with 28 points. In sixth place was North Central (3-7 & 2-5) with 18 points while North Park (2-8 & 0-7) took seventh with 14 points. Elmhurst (2-8 & 1-6) had eight points for eighth place.

Each coach votes for the seven other schools in the league but is not allowed to vote for his own team.
