North Central Men's Cross Country Wins CCIW's 36th NCAA Division III National Title

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – With North Central winning the national title in men’s cross country on Saturday, the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) has now won 36 NCAA Division III national titles in its history.

The win by North Central was the eighth national title this decade for the conference and first since Illinois Wesleyan won both the women’s indoor and outdoor track & field titles in 2008. Wheaton women’s soccer has won three national championships this decade (2004, 2006, 2007), along with a Millikin women’s basketball title (2005), and a North Central men’s outdoor track & field title (2000).

Elmhurst College won a pair of NCAA Division III Volleyball Championships (1983 and 1985), and North Central College won a women’s basketball title (1983) before the conference began sponsorship of women’s athletics in 1986-87.

In addition, Wheaton won a national title in men’s basketball (1958) under the NCAA’s former College Divisision while North Central won four NAIA national titles in men’s swimming (1958, 1961, 1962, 1963).

This was North Central’s 13 th national title in men’s cross country and first since 1999 as all seven runners earned all-American status on Saturday. The Cardinals’ previous championships came in 1975, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1993, 1997, 1998 and 1999.
